We have a very clear ethos and style of working. We believe in Approachable Professionalism. We do not stand on ceremony; we are clear speaking, sometimes blunt, always friendly, supportive where necessary, and completely non judgmental. We save the formality for the Court.
Lister Brady Criminal Defence
Lister Brady formed in 2005 to provide a specialist, dedicated criminal defence service in Worcester and the surrounding areas. Our solicitors are all skilled, experienced, specialist. They all have Higher Rights of audience to represent in the Crown Court, should you wish. We have very strong links to Chambers for cases where a barrister is called for.
We advocate daily in the magistrates’ courts, dealing with trials, bail, pleas, sentences. We are respected by our local courts, having built up a reputation for quality representation and straight talking. It is important, we believe, that an advocate is trusted by the court, so their mitigation or submissions are accepted more readily. We are regularly appointed by the Court to carry out cross examinations where a defendant is prohibited from doing so themselves. We have been asked by the Crown court to try to assist unrepresented defendants, particularly those with mental health problems.
Unlike many firms, our solicitors prioritise attending at police interviews, whether to clients under arrest or on a voluntary basis, and attend personally whatever the hour. We believe that high quality representation at the early stage can often result in a successful outcome early on, whether that is by representations for a diversion from prosecution, or early identification of unexplored lines of enquiry that might assist in having a case dropped.
Police know that we will defend our clients rights vigorously; they will not be given an easy ride where there are issues to be challenged. Many firms routinely use representatives rather than solicitors at the police station. We use Higher rights qualified solicitors, with qualified representatives only where a clash of dates makes it necessary.
In the Crown Court we have built up a reputation for meticulous preparation of the most serious of cases. Our solicitors will advocate for you in the Crown court if you want a seamless service. Often clients can be represented by one solicitor right from initial arrest until their final appearance at the Crown court. Many cases require Counsel, of course, and we can get the best available. We work as a team with Counsel, ensuring all aspects of the case are prepared in every detail. We routinely attend court with Counsel to assist both them and you: many firms no longer provide this service with the constraints on legal aid, but we believe in trying to continue to provide the highest level of service regardless.
We go the extra mile. Whether that is turning out for a 2am Saturday morning interview on a shoplifting case, or in one recent case obtaining a total of 5 psychiatrist opinions for a Crown Court client with a fast changing situation.
